The Tukang Besi Archipelago or Wakatobi is one of the last frontiers for divers offering fantastic secluded bays.

The Tukang Besi Archipelago is better known as Wakatobi for the first letters of the four main islands Wangi-Wangi, Kaledupa (which is honored of being the largest atoll in the world), Tomia and Binongko. It offers steep drop-offs, colorful marine life and remoteness at its best, being one of the last frontiers for divers. Sitting in the west Banda Sea, you can see whale sharks, hammerheads, dolphins, dugong, mantas, turtles, huge sponges and other colorful corals.

Liveaboard tours will bring you to some of the most secluded islands where it is still possible to find something undiscovered. Relax on board with a drink, viewing sunset at one of its pristine bays or just enjoy the nice cool sea breeze on deck with a good book. Getting to Tukang Besi is by boat from Kendari, one of the main towns in South Sulawesi. The island chain is struck by western and eastern monsoons which makes the months April and October the best time to dive here. The open ocean might be very rough and even inaccessible in other months.
