Menjangan Island is part of a National Park where marine life and coral growth is well maintained and controlled to make sure it flourishes.

Menjangan island is part of Bali Barat National Park, known for its magnificent underwater world, beautiful coral reefs found nearby and the best place for snorkeling, diving and fishing. Menjangan Island is surrounded by a coral reef, characterized by deep drop offs of up to 60 meters and by complex rock formations. The beds of the lagoon are rich in towering coral formations, with colors ranging from green to intense yellow. These formations are a habitat for numerous small creatures such as gobies, frogfish, scorpionfish, lionfish, blennies, nudibranches and shellfish. All of which are a good point for macro-photography and anyone interested in marine biology, especially during night dives.
These distinctive features have given rise to a great number of large and small caves, festooned with sponge and soft corals and often inhabited by large groupers, moray eels and in the smaller caves by young snappers and batfish. The sea beds are also rich in large barrel sponges and vibrant sea fans, some of which are truly enormous. Given the depth, the moderate flow of current and protection from strong winds, it is common to see tuna, shoals of jack-fish, batfish, angelfish, sea turtles, and on occasion, sharks, especially off the outer corners of the island.
The walls have caves, crevasses and spires and are covered with huge gorgonian fans and barrel sponges. Schooling banner fish, butterfly fish, groupers, frog fish, trigger fish, jack fish, sweetlips, midnight snappers, together with the occasional timid white tip and the black tip reef sharks make for an exciting and safe diving experience. We have even spotted manta rays and whale sharks on numerous occasions. Exploring this vast diving island would take quite some time so we recommend at least two days of diving.
